Choosing products
Do I need a hub?
Zigbee devices need a Zigbee hub, such as the Zemismart M1, M1 Pro or M6. Matter over WiFi devices don't need a Zigbee hub, but they do need a Matter controller such as an Apple TV, HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub or SmartThings Station. WiFi (Tuya) devices connect straight to your router. Each product page says what it needs. See our Zigbee, Matter and WiFi guide.
Will a switch fit my UK back box?
Only switches marked UK Size (86mm) are made for standard UK back boxes. US 4x2, 4x4 and Brazil switches will not fit a UK back box. See our back box size guide.
What is a neutral wire, and do I have one?
Most smart switches need a neutral wire at the switch. Many older UK lighting circuits don't have one there. If you don't, choose a switch from our no neutral range, or ask an electrician to check.
Does it work with Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa?
It depends on the product. Matter devices work with Apple Home, Google Home and SmartThings. Many Zigbee devices work with Apple Home only through the M6 or M1 Pro hub. Alexa support is listed on each product page. Don't assume: check the "Works with" section before you buy.

Can I fit a smart switch myself?
We recommend a qualified electrician. In England and Wales, some electrical work must meet Part P of the Building Regulations. Read our installation and safety page.
